State-of-the-art conference facilities located in a prime district of Tokyo

UNU Centre Conference Facilities, 1F Annex

The United Nations University hosts a wide range of academic conferences, seminars, workshops, etc., in the UNU Headquarters Building in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. The excellent, fully equipped conference facilities at UNU Headquarters include:

  • U Thant International Conference Hall on the 3rd floor (capacity: 360-plus)
  • Elizabeth Rose Conference Hall on the 5th floor (capacity: 110)
  • small meeting rooms on the 5th floor (capacity: each 25)
  • a reception hall on the 2nd floor (capacity: 120–150)

These conference, meeting, and event facilities are available to UN agencies and to external third parties (e.g., NGOs or private sector companies) on a rental basis.

What can UNU event facilities be used for?

The UNU conference facilities can be used for a wide range of academic conferences, seminars, and workshops. However, UNU conference facilities shall not be used for commercial, political, or religious activities or for any purpose that conflicts with the interests or values of the United Nations or UNU. [Top]

How far in advance do you accept reservations?

UNU accepts reservations one year in advance. To make a reservation, please fill out the Online Reservation Request form (available at this link). [Top]

Is it possible to preview UNU event facilities?

Yes, you may visit and preview the venue(s), but only after your reservation is approved. After your reservation is approved, the UNU Conference Management Unit will contact you with available preview dates. [Top]

Is there a cancellation fee if I cancel my reservation after my application is approved?

Yes. The cancellation fee is 50% if you cancel within one month before the event. The cancellation fee is 100% if you cancel within 3 days before the event. [Top]

Is it possible to use UNU’s photos for event programmes or brochures?

UNU might be able to provide some photos, or you can use photos from our website. However, please contact UNU beforehand to gain permission. [Top]

Are eating and drinking permitted inside venues?

In general, eating and drinking are not permitted inside the venue(s), however, you may bring bottled water or tea. If you would like to have a coffee break or lunch during your meetings, please book the 2F Reception Hall or rooms attached to U Thant International Conference Hall or Elizabeth Rose Hall, where eating and drinking are permitted. [Top]

Is it possible to change the layout of venue(s)?

The layouts in U Thant International Conference Hall and Elizabeth Rose Conference Hall cannot be changed because the chairs and tables are fixed. For other venues you can change the room layout. Please be sure to return venues to their original layouts after the event. [Top]

Does UNU have car parking facilities for visitors?

There are no car parking facilities for visitors on UNU premises. However, for wheelchair users or due to various reasons, one wishes to use a car parking, please let us know at the time of booking. [Top]

Can I dispose of event garbage on-site?

No. Venue users are expected to take event garbage with them after events. [Top]

Do you have any event audio equipment such as microphones or speakers?

Yes. UNU has basic audio and visual equipment in most venues. For more details, please refer to Guidelines for UNU Conference Facilities. Please note that the operator fee, set-up, removal and transportation fee of additional equipment is not included in the occupation fee. [Top]
