TICAD IV Related Events of UNU
Within the framework of the TICAD process, the United Nations University will organize five official side events on topics of relevance to African development as well as other related public events. It also is anticipated that the Rector of the UNU will participate in the TICAD IV session entitled “Addressing Environmental Changes” and will act as leader of the session focusing on “Adaptation and Disaster Prevention”.

May 22 is celebrated annually as the United Nations International Day for Biological Diversity to draw attention to the importance of biological diversity and its importance to sustainable human development. The focus this year is on biodiversity and agriculture.

UN University Global Issues Seminar Series Features Event on Climate Change in Asia
The United Nations University is pleased to announce the third session of the UNU Interactive Seminar on Global Issues to be held Friday, 18 April 2008. The featured lecturer will be Dr. Yasuko Kameyama of the National Institute for Environmental Studies, co-editor of the forthcoming UNU Press book Climate Change in Asia: Perspectives on the Future Climate Regime.

UNU and MOFA Peacebuilders Symposium: 24–25 March
The Tokyo Peacebuilders Symposium 2008 symposium will draw insights from peacebuilding practitioners and academics, from Asia and other regions of the world, to feed into global peacebuilding efforts. The focus will be on contributing to peacebuilding from an Asian perspective and on strengthening regional and global networks in this field.

UNU to Host Japan Model United Nations Presentation
The Model United Nations is a simulation of a UN conference in which student participants act as delegates of an assigned country. The aim of the conference is to pass a resolution that will be a comprehensive solution to the problem that serves as the agenda item. This draft resolution is put through a voting process in which each country casts one vote.

UN University Launches Global Issues Seminar Series
The United Nations University is pleased to announce the launch of a new public seminar series on issues of global concern as they relate to Japan. Providing a forum for informed discussion among Japanese academia, civil society and the public, the UNU Interactive Seminar on Global Issues series will focus on topics drawn from recent or forthcoming UNU Press scholarly publications, with contributors to each book appearing as seminar speakers.

United Nations University Launches Online OpenCourseWare Portal
Today, 4 February, United Nations University launches the UNU OpenCourseWare Portal, accessible at ocw.unu.edu. Initially, the UNU OpenCourseWare Portal offers open access to about a dozen courses developed by three of UNU's Research and Training Centres and Programmes (RTC/Ps) and the Tokyo-based UNU Media Studio.

Press Conference by Prof. Vitit Muntarbhorn, UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the DPRK
Prof. Vitit Muntarbhorn, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), will visit Japan from 14 to 18 January on an official mission. The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the DPRK is mandated to investigate and report to the Human Rights Council and the General Assembly on conditions relating to human rights in the DPRK, including compliance with its obligations under both international human rights instruments and international humanitarian law.
