セミナーのねらい    Objectives 　国連大学グローバル・セミナーは、国連の役割や人類が直面しているグローバルな諸問題について、学生や若い社会人に関心と問題意識をもってもらうことを目的に、毎年各地で開催しています。日本国内での開催は、湘南、神戸、北海道、沖縄、島根、金沢に続き、2002年度第１回東北セッションを仙台市で開催、2003年度に秋田市で第２回セッション、2004年度に福島市で第３回セッションが開催されました。本年度は、９月11日〜14日に盛岡市で第４回の東北セッションを開催します。 　これまで開催された東北セッションを受け継ぎ、今回の東北セッションの総合テーマは、「資源循環と共生社会―地域社会から地球社会へ」としました。現在私たちは、大量生産・大量消費・大量廃棄という社会システムの中にいます。そして、地域の自然の循環サイクルが分断されていることによって、例えば産業廃棄物の不法投棄など、多くの解決困難な事態を生じさせています。 　人間と自然＜環境＞との共生、都市と農村の共生を目指して資源を循環させ、さらに先進地域と発展途上地域との共生を実現するためには、何が必要でしょうか。 　こうした問題を解決するために、現在様々な取り組みがなされており、セッション開催地である岩手県でも種々の試行がされています。これらのローカルな実践に学びつつ、地球全体の共生の可能性を考えていきましょう。 　このセミナーは、３泊４日の合宿形式で行われます。基本構成として、基調講演、講義に加え、グループ討論を行います。受講者は、内外の専門家を含む講師と親しく接触できますし、さらに留学生を含む受講者同士、さらにはプログラム委員の諸先生との交流も深めることができるでしょう。テーマに関心があり、国際社会・地域での活動を希望している人であれば、日本全国から応募することができます。なお、セミナー初日の開会式と基調講演は、一般に公開される「公開講座」とします。 The United Nations University (UNU) Global Seminars, held annually in Japan and abroad, are aimed at deepening the understanding among students and young professionals in Japan of pressing global issues that are the concern of the United Nations, its Peoples and Member States. Following the establishment of seminar sessions in the Shonan, Kobe, Hokkaido, Okinawa, Shimane, and Kanazawa areas, the first UNU Global Seminar - Tohoku Session was held in Sendai City in 2002, followed by the 2nd Tohoku Session in Akita City in 2003 and the 3rd Tohoku Session in Fukushima City in 2004. In mid-September 2005, the 4th Session will be held in Morioka City. The topic for this year's session is "Local Resource Cycles and Global Sustainable Society". Nowadays, we live in a social system of mass production, mass consumption, and mass waste. This has created a number of difficult problems, such as the illegal disposal of industrial waste and cutting of the natural cycle of circulation of local areas. In this year's Tohoku Session, participants will consider what is necessary for humans and nature (the environment) to coexist, for cities and villages to circulate resources, and for developed and developing nations to live together. In Iwate, a sponsoring prefecture of this session, various trials have been undertaken to address such issues. Let's learn from local practice and think about how we can create a symbiotic global society. This four-day seminar will bring together distinguished scholars and practitioners from Japan and abroad who will give lectures as well as engage in lively exchange with the seminar participants. The format will consist of keynote speeches, lectures and group discussions. We welcome applications from those in Japan who are interested in issues of global concern or are pursuing international or local community service-based careers. The first-day opening ceremony and keynote lectures will be open to the public.

参加申込要領 Application Information
参加資格：	原則として、日本の大学に在籍する学部生、大学院生、留学生で、専攻は問いません。テ−マに関心のある若い社会人（テーマについての専門家や大学等ですでに教鞭をとられている方は除く）も歓迎します。セミナー使用言語は日本語と英語で、基調講演以外は、通訳がつきません。
Requirements for participation:	The seminar is open to Japanese or foreign students enrolled at Japanese universities (undergraduate and graduate students), irrespective of their major. Young professionals interested in the seminar theme are also welcome, although those working in the subject area are not admissible. Participants are required to understand both English and Japanese, as lectures will be delivered in either language. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided only for the public keynote lectures.
期　間 ：	2004年7月31日(土)〜8月3日(火) 31日午後開会式式場にて参加登録。3日昼食後現地解散。詳細は追って通知します。なお、セミナー期間中、受講生は合宿の上、全プログラムに参加するものとします。
Date:	31 July - 3 August, 2004 (Sat.-Tue.) The seminar starts on 31 July at 13.00 hours with the opening ceremony and ends on 3 August after lunch. Participants are required to register at the auditorium at the time of the opening ceremony and stay for the entire duration of the seminar.

費　用 ：	一人2万5千円 (宿泊費、食費、資料代込。但し交通費は除く)。 なお、私費留学生は、選考により参加費用が一部免除されることがあります。
Fee:	The participation fee of Yen 25,000 covers accommodation, meals, and seminar documentation, but does note include travel expenses to and from the seminar site. Foreign students who do not receive a full scholarship for their study in Japan may apply for a waiver of the participation fee.
修了証 ：	セミナーの全プログラムを終了し、所定の手続きを完了した参加者には国連大学から修了証が交付されます。
Certificate:	Each participant will receive a UNU certificate upon successful completion of the seminar.
