セミナーのねらい/Objectives

何気なく自転車に乗ったりトレーニングをしたり、私たちにとって運動することは、体を健康にして元気を出すための日常の方法になっています。スポーツはとても多面的で、一人でもグループでもでき、強靭な体の人でも身体に障害がある人でもできます。精巧な器具が必要とされる場合や、自分の足だけで跳んだり走ったりする場合もあります。スポーツは趣味にも職業にもなり得ます。スポーツは実際にすることも鑑賞することもでき、人をひきつける魅力があるので、スポーツのイメージはスポーツ用品から食品に至るまで様々なものの販売促進に広く用いられています。最近では、平和と開発の分野においてもスポーツの活用が認められるようになっていることから、国連は2005年を「スポーツと体育の国際年」と宣言しています。 　しかし、一般的には、紛争を防いだり解決したりすることとスポーツの関連性について、あまりはっきりとは理解されていません。不平等を減らしたり、平和を促進したり、経済や社会を発展させることにスポーツがどのように寄与しているのでしょうか。このセミナーでは、国内外からの専門家の講義と全体討議や少人数でのグループ討論を通して、これらの疑問に対する答えの提供を目的としています。 　また、ダイナミックな演舞で知られる沖縄の伝統的な踊りであるエイサーを紹介する時間も設けておりますので、参加者はエイサーに挑戦する楽しみも経験することでしょう。 　国連大学グローバル・セミナーは、国際社会が直面している地球規模の問題について、学生や若い社会人の関心を高め、理解を深めることを目的に、日本国内では７箇所で開催されています。他のセミナーと同様、講義は日本語または英語で行われます。国際問題に関心のある方、国際社会で働きたい方には、知識を深めるとともに、分析力を高め、議論の進め方を学ぶ絶好の場となるでしょう。 　なお、セミナー初日の基調講演は一般公開でおこなわれ、通訳がつきますので、多くの方々のご聴講を歓迎いたします。

For most of us, regular exercise - be it a casual ride on a bicycle or through serious training - is a means of keeping our body in shape and our spirits up. Sport is a very versatile means of exercise: it can be done alone or in a group, by people with strong bodies and by those with physical handicaps; it may require elaborate equipment, or it may require simply getting on our feet and running or jumping. Sport can be a hobby, or it can be a profession. Sport fascinates both those who do it, and those who watch - as evidenced by the images of sport that are commonly used to promote the sales of everything from clothing to food. In recent years, the mobilizing aspect of sport has also come to be recognized by actors in the peace and development arena, culminating in the declaration of the "United Nations International Year of Sport and Physical Education 2005." For many, though, the links between sport and the prevention or resolution of conflict, or between sport and development, are not so apparent. How can sport contribute to alleviating inequalities, to promoting peace, or to the development of economies and societies? This seminar, with the theme of "Sport and Physical Education: Peace, Development and Exchange," aims to provide answers to these questions. It will feature lectures by experts from Japan and abroad, and discussions in large and small groups. Participants will also be able to experience the challenges and joys of engaging in a new sport activity through an introduction to a traditional dance and sport of Okinawa, Eisa. UNU Global Seminars are aimed at deepening the understanding among students and young professionals of global problems that are the concern of the United Nations, its Peoples and Member States. Annual seminar sessions are held at locations throughout Japan and abroad. We welcome applications from those who are interested in issues of global concern or who plan to pursue an international career; this seminar offers an excellent opportunity to deepen your knowledge and to sharpen your analytical and discourse skills. The lectures will be given in either English or Japanese. Interested members of the public are also cordially invited to attend the keynote speeches on the first day of the seminar; simultaneous interpretation will be provided for the keynote speeches only.

参加申込要領/ Application Information 参加資格 Requirements for participation: 原則として、日本の大学に在籍する学部生、大学院生、留学生で、専攻分野は問いません。テーマに関心のある若い社会人（テーマについての専門家及び大学等ですでに教鞭をとられている方は除く）も歓迎します。セミナーの使用言語は、日本語と英語で、基調講演以外は通訳が付きません。 The seminar is open to Japanese and foreign students enrolled at Japanese universities (undergraduate and graduate students), irrespective of their major. Young professionals interested in the seminar theme are also welcome, although those working in the subject area are not admissible. Participants are required to understand both English and Japanese, as lectures will be delivered in either language.
