Objectives
The aim of the United Nations University Global Seminars is to deepen understanding, insight and judgment regarding the global issues that concern the United Nations. In 1995, in commemoration of the both the 50th anniversary of the United Nations and the 20th anniversary of the United Nations University, the first UNU Global Seminar to be held in the Kansai region, the Kobe Session, was instigated. In 2002, a second venue was added and the name of the Kobe Session was changed to Kobe-Awaji Session, reflecting that change. This year, the Session celebrates its tenth anniversary, an occasion it shares with the local community as we have worked and grown together since the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake of January, 1995.

The overall theme of this year's seminar is "Safety and Conviviality in the Global Community." Sessions such as "Human Lives and the Threat of Natural Disasters," "Conviviality: Nature and Humanity," and "Conviviality among Cultures" will address this theme from various perspectives. Through our discussions, we hope to find ways to ensure the safety and conviviality of global society in a diverse world.

The seminar brings together distinguished scholars and practitioners from both Japan and abroad. Participants not only engage in discussion with the lecturers, but also have discussion groups in which they can further deepen their understanding of the seminar's theme.

As all participants in this seminar stay together for the duration of the seminar, there are many opportunities to interact and deepen exchange on a personal level with the lecturers, other participants and members of the steering committee.

If you are interested in global issues, and/or interested in an international career, you are most welcome to participate.
