セミナーのねらい    Objectives 国連大学グローバル・セミナーは、国連の役割や人類が直面している地球規模の問題について、学生や社会人に関心と問題意識を持ってもらうことを目的とする。開催地は全国主要地域に広がり、湘南、神戸、北海道、沖縄、島根、金沢に続いて、2002年9月に第1回東北セッションが仙台市で開催された。第２回東北セッションは秋田市で開催される。 今回、総合テーマを「地球環境と地域開発」とした。前世紀は対峙する概念であったともいえる地球環境の保全と地域開発を、21世紀は知恵を出し合って調和のとれた関係にしていく必要がある。初日は総合テーマに沿った「基調講演」の中で問題提起がなされ、それを基礎に２、３日目に４つに分かれたセッションで講義（及び総合討論）が行われる。それぞれのセッションテーマとして、「持続的発展と地域社会」、「環境保全と多文化共生社会」、「世界遺産・白神山地について」、「エコシティ」が選ばれている。これらを通して人間が地域開発と環境保全を調整するにあたっての果たすべき役割を深く考えてみたい。 セミナーは３泊４日の合宿形式で行われる。基本構成として、基調講演、講義に加えてグ ループ討論が行われる。受講生は内外の専門家を含む講師と親しく接触できるほか、留学生を含む受講生同士、さらにはプログラム委員の諸先生との交流も深めることができる。テーマに関心のある者で国際社会・地域での活動を希望する者であれば日本全国から応募できる。なおセミナー初日の開会式と基調講演は一般公開される。 The United Nations University (UNU) Global Seminars are aimed at deepening the understanding among students and young professionals in Japan of pressing issues that are the concern of the United Nations, its Peoples and Member States. Following the establishment of annual seminars in the Shonan, Kobe, Hokkaido, Okinawa, Shimane and Kanazawa areas, the first UNU Global Seminar-Tohoku Session was held in Sendai in 2002. This year, the second Tohoku Session will take place in Akita City. This year’s theme is “Global Environment and Regional Development.” In the previous century, these two notions were often thought of as being in opposition to each another. The twenty-first century, however, requires a new perspective - one that harmonizes environmental conservation and regional development. On the first day, two keynote lectures will provide an overview of the key issues of the seminar. This will be followed by four lectures (including discussion) over the second and third days; themes include “Sustainable Development and Local Communities,” “Environmental Conservation and Multicultural Societies,” “World Heritage: the Shirakami Mountain Region” and “Eco-cities.” By examining these topics, participants will consider how regional development and environmental conservation might proceed in a balanced and sustainable manner. This four-day seminar brings together distinguished scholars and practitioners from both Japan and abroad who will give lectures as well as engage in an active exchange with the participants. The format will consist of keynote speeches, lectures and group discussions. We welcome applications from throughout Japan from those who are interested in issues of global concern or are pursuing international or local community service-based careers. On the first day, the opening ceremony and keynote lectures will be open to the general public.

参加申込要領 Application Information
参加資格：	原則として、日本の大学に在籍する学部生、大学院生、留学生で、専攻は問いません。テ−マに関心のある若い社会人（テーマについての専門家や大学等ですでに教鞭をとられている方は除く）も歓迎します。セミナー使用言語は日本語と英語で、基調講演以外は、通訳がつきません。
Requirements for participation:	The seminar is open to Japanese or foreign students enrolled at Japanese universities (undergraduate and graduate students), irrespective of their major. Young professionals interested in the seminar theme are also welcome, although those working in the subject area are not admissible. Participants are required to understand both English and Japanese, as lectures will be delivered in either language. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided only of the public keynote lectures.

費　用 ：	一人2万5千円 (宿泊費、食費、資料代込。但し交通費は除く)。 なお、私費留学生は、選考により参加費用が一部免除されることがあります。
Fee:	The participation fee of Yen 25,000 covers accommodation, meals, and seminar documentation, but does note include travel expenses to and from the seminar site. Foreign students who do not receive a full scholarship for their study in Japan may apply for a waiver of the participation fee.
修了証 ：	セミナーの全プログラムを終了し、所定の手続きを完了した参加者には国連大学から修了証が交付されます。
Certificate:	Each participant will receive a UNU certificate upon successful completion of the seminar.
