Objectives
The United Nations University Global Seminars are aimed at heightening understanding, insight and judgment regarding pressing issues that are the concern of the United Nations. First held in 1995, the Kobe Session coincided with the 50-year anniversary of the United Nations as well as the 20-year anniversary of United Nations University. This year marks the seminar's ninth session. It has grown along with the reconstruction of Kobe since the 1995 Hanshin Awaji Earthquake.

This seminar brings together distinguished scholars and practitioners from both Japan and abroad, who will not only give lectures, but also engage in an active exchange with the participants throughout the four-day seminar.

The overall theme of this year's seminar is "Will Science and Technology Save Our Global Community?" with sessions which approach this theme from such angles as "Technology" and "Human Life." The objective of the seminar is to discuss ways to save our earth and global community from the dangers that confront us.

As participants of this seminar will lodge together, they will easily be able to interact with the lecturers on a personal level, and have the opportunity to deepen exchange with the members of the steering committee.

The seminar is open to Japanese and international students enrolled at Japanese universities (undergraduate/graduate level), regardless of their major. Young professionals who are interested in the theme of the seminar are also welcome to apply.

Lectures will be given in either Japanese or English; simultaneous interpretation is not available.

If you are interested in global issues, and/or interested in an international career, you are most welcome to participate.
