Professor Margret Wintermantel

Margret WintermantelMargret Wintermantel read psychology and media studies at the University of Mainz, graduating in psychology in 1970 and gaining her doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) in 1972. She worked as a research assistant at the Psychology Institute of the University of Heidelberg from 1972 to 1977, conducting research at Ann Arbor and Berkeley (USA).

She became a lecturer at the Psychology Institute of the University of Heidelberg and was project director for the "Speaking and Language Understanding" research unit. She was a member of the Senate Committee on Women's Affairs at the University of Heiddelberg from 1987 to 1989, and Chair of the Association of Women Academics and Scientists in Baden-Württemberg from 1987 to 1993. In 1992 she became Professor at the University of the Saarland. From 1994 to 1997 she was Vice President responsible for Teaching and Studies at the university. She has been, inter alia, a member of the Committee of Experts on Research and Technology in the Saarland, a member of the Executive Board of the German Psychology Society, a member of the Higher Education Structure Committee of Baden-Württemberg.

Between 1999 and 2000, she was Ombudswoman at the University of the Saarland, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Social and Applied Human Sciences, a member of the Advisory Board on Women's Affairs, and a member of the Senate of the University of the Saarland. In November, 2000, she became President of the university.
