The Center for African Area Studies (CAAS) of Kyoto University was created in 1986 as the only academic research institution in Japan devoted to African Studies.

  • Institute of Developing Economies (IDE)
IDE conducts basic and comprehensive research on economic and related affairs in Asia and other developing regions. • International Development Center of Japan (IDCJ) (Japanese only)
IDCJ was founded in 1971 by the late Saburo Okita as Japan's first think tank specializing in the field of development and cooperation. From its inception, it has pursued its vanguard agenda of training, research and consulting activities. IDCJ continues to lead the way in Japan's international cooperation fields.

  • Institute for International Cooperation (IFIC)
The Institute for International Cooperation (IFIC) was established in 1983 by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to strengthen its approach to technical cooperation as well as to improve the operation of JICA programs.

  • International Development Research Institute, Foundation for Advanced Studies on International Development (IDRI-FASID)
Aiming at the cultivation of human resources for international development, FASID conducts training programs and promotes research and higher education. IDRI carries out research, forums and education activities on important issues and trends in development policy and practice.

  • Partners: The World Bank - Japan Research Fair 1997
